DOR & Eligibility
01. What is the California Department of Rehabilitation (DOR)?
DOR is the state agency that funds vocational rehabilitation (VR) services for Californians with disabilities. ARS WorkAbility is a DOR-approved vendor. If you are DOR-eligible, your services may be fully funded.
02. How do I know if I am eligible for DOR services?
DOR serves individuals whose disability creates a barrier to employment. Visit dor.ca.gov to learn about eligibility and how to apply or ask us — we can help you navigate the process.
03. What is Competitive Integrated Employment (CIE)?
CIE is the federal standard for quality employment — real jobs, at or above minimum wage, alongside people without disabilities, with equal access to advancement and benefits. All ARS placements aim to meet the CIE standard.
Training
01. What kind of training does ARS provide?
We offer a five-stage online training curriculum delivered through the ARS Orientation LMS, covering workplace safety, onboarding essentials, cleaning and custodial skills, and advanced technical skills. Adults 55+ also receive an additional Senior Employment Track with digital literacy, benefits navigation, and career re-entry modules.
02. Do I have to complete all training stages?
No, only Stage 5 is an additional track for adults aged 55 or older who are enrolled in or eligible for SCSEP.
03. Is training available in my language?
No, not at this point. It’s available in English and sometimes uses simple Spanish words.
After Placement
01. What support do I get after I am hired?
ARS provides structured retention support for up to one year after placement — including 90-day, 180-day, and 365-day check-ins with you and your employer.
02. Will working affect my SSI, SSDI, or Medi-Cal benefits?
It depends on your specific situation. We provide benefits coaching to help you understand how employment affects your benefits so you can make informed decisions. This is one of the most important conversations we have with every job seeker.
03. What if I have a problem with my employer after I’m hired?
Your job coach stays available to you. If workplace issues arise, we can help you communicate professionally, navigate accommodation requests, or connect you with legal or advocacy resources as needed.
04. I’m 55 and haven’t worked in years. Can you really help me?
Absolutely. Our Older Adults program and Stage 5 training track were designed specifically for this situation. We have helped adults in their 60s and 70s re-enter the workforce with updated resumes, digital skills training, and placement into inclusive employers who value experience.
